LSB has origins in SPI, as do a few other projects. The standard is
currently owned by the Free Standards Group, a separate nonprofit entity,
which has its own membership and its own board.
* LSB is a SPI-originated project
* FSG is a separate entity that is the current legal owner of the LSB
SPI and the FSG are on extremely good terms, and as you noted, SPI
is a nonprofit member of the FSG, and participated in the recent FSG
board elections.
On a side note, many Debian developers participate in the creation
and modification of the LSB, and the FSG takes special care to include
Debian in its processes, and ensure that there is a compliance testing
path for Debian GNU/Linux as well.
